The CMX850 combines a dual-port V.22bis modem with an 8051 MCU including 8k of RAM to form a powerful communications processor. Extended addressing offers page-mode access to 4Mbytes of external FLASH memory. The 8051 runs from the ~12MHz oscillator with a choice of sub-multiple frequencies down to ~12kHz giving a range of low power operating modes.

The supply voltage is in the range: 3.0 to 3.6 V. A Watchdog Timer and standard 8051 Timers are included. I/O facilities include an LCD controller interface, 8x16 keypad interface with interrupts, a UART, two low power PWM outputs, and a multiplexed 2-input 10-bit A to D converter. Unused functions can be alternatively used as GPIO. Low power and very low power (sleep) modes contribute to low battery consumption.

The MUXAD pin allows the 8051 to multiplex the eight lower address and data bus lines to release further pins for I/O (debug support etc.). The V.22bis modem can be woken from sleep mode by 'ringing' or 'line-reversals'.

Domosys sells several ICs that are powerful single-chip solutions for developing a complete PowerBus device. Each IC is based on a RISC 8051 microcontroller (8x faster than a standard 8051) operating at 30 MHz from –40°C to 85°C. They contain 64 KB of flash memory, 6 KB of RAM, a versatile PHY supporting multiple media (AC, DC, and TP), and are available in 48 and 80 pin LQFP packages.

The PowerBus protocol stack is embedded in the flash memory, and can be upgraded via UART, SPI, or the medium. Lots of room is available in flash memory for adding manufacturer or installer scenarios and applications using V-Logic and V^(2)s. Every chip has a unique, worldwide MAC address useful for addressing PB nodes over the Internet, as well as several unique 80-bit encryption keys. The U-510 and U-530 series of ICs contains support for operating as LN or SN managers, at the expense of not having any I/O device drivers other than the PowerBus API serial interface. The U-520 and U-540 series of ICs can only operate as a PB node, but contain drivers for up to 36 I/Os, a triac driver, 2 PWM outputs, and an input counter.

The HT83C51 is an affordable and highly reliable electronic component designed specifically for applications with an extremely wide operating temperature range such as down-hole oil well, aerospace, turbine engine and industrial control. The HT83C51 uses the standard MCS-51 instruction set which is optimized for control applications and is compatible with all known development environments. Electronics can be placed with sensors to transmit high level signals to the main controller. Key features include the programmable counter array, watch dog timer, enhanced serial port for multiprocessor communication and a hierarchical interrupt structure.

Software selectable idle and power down modes are also included for reduced power. The HT83C51 supports half-duplex serial communication and has 8K Bytes of Mask programmable ROM. The device is available in a standard pinout DIP with optional packages considered.

SS1102 is an integration of SS1101 and an 8-bit micro-controller on a single chip. The CPU is code compatible with Intel 80C51. The 73M2910L high performance micro-controller is based on the industry standard 8-bit 8032. The architecture has been optimized for low power portable modem or communication applications by integrating unique features with the core CPU.

A key feature is a user friendly HDLC Packetizer, accessed through the special function registers. It has a serial I/O, hardware support for 16 and 32-bit CRC, zero insert/delete control, a dedicated interrupt and a clear channel mode for by-passing the packetizer.

The 73M2910L has two extra interrupt sources, an external interrupt and a HDLC interrupt. The HDLC interrupt has two registers associated with it; the HDLC Interrupt Register which is used to determine the source of the interrupt, and the HDLC Interrupt Enable Register that enables the source of the interrupt.

The state of the external interrupts can be read through a register allowing the interrupt pins to be used as inputs. The interrupt pins INT0 and INT1 can be either negative edge, positive edge or level triggered. The INT2 pin is always edge triggered.

Two buffered clock outputs have been added to support peripheral functions such as UARTs, modems and other clocked devices.

The Triscend E5 family is based on a performance-enhanced "turbo" version of the 8032 8-bit microcontroller. The E5 Family consists of 4 devices (all based on the "turbo" 8032) which vary in the amount of on-chip programmable logic, RAM and I/Os.

The E5 is ideal for embedded systems applications that demand both time-to-market and high levels of customization. The E5 is compatible with existing, third-party 8032 firmware tools--from code development to in-system, real-time debugging. Thus a designer can utilize familiar processor development tools and code libraries.

Designers can configure E5 CSoC chips using the Triscend FastChip Development System. FastChip software allows designers to customize the processor peripherals using a "drag and drop" methodology. Designers simply select which soft peripheral is desired, then they "drag" it into place around the processor. From there FastChip makes the rest of the process automatic--code development can proceed without worrying about the implementation details of the soft peripheral.
